Donny Hathaway – Misty – CaroleBristol: I haven’t played Donny Hathaway’s Everything Is Everything album in years, but I put it on yesterday and remembered exactly how good it is. This track is a fantastic arrangement of a standard and it really shows off his wonderful voice. The horns are great too.

Christopher Paul Stelling – Sleep Baby Sleep – tincanman: Always intense, Stelling turns the anger up a notch or two more when he writes about refugee camps. He’s not so much after an earworm as a lasting impression. From last year’s Itinerant Arias.

Felt – Trails of Colour Dissolve – vanwolf: Have nominated this many times but not been picked yet. To coincide with the reissues of some of the Felt albums, a very under- appreciated band.

The Temperance Movement – A Deeper Cut – DsD: From an early candidate for the 2018 DsD Album Of The Year shortlist, this is going to get your spot-the-influence antennae twitching. Change the accent on the singer, and this could be straight off one of the most ubiquitous albums around in its day (which coincidentally, I bought in probably the same month as a nailed-on personal Desert Island Disc; a solo release by the TM’s singer). Anyone wanna play the game and tell me which two LPs I’m referring to?

Larry Carlton, Terry McMillan – Crazy Mama – Ravi Raman: Crazy Mama, from the blues album I mentioned, 100 Years of the Blues.

Monkey Warhol – Boots & Pants – AliM: From Monkey Warhol’s EP6, MW says: “About Boots & Pants… try repeating “boots and pants, boots and pants, boots and pants” over and over again… you’ll find you have your very own techno beat!!! This is a song about a hedonistic night out… complete with substance abuse, DayGlo paint, and the magic of twerking!
