More new sounds for you this Sunday morning. Please have a listen, and feel free to comment below. Many thanks to all contributors.

Silver Liz – Him:Him is a track from Chicago-based Silver Liz, showcasing a shoegaze-y vignette that captures the feelings of existential weight and blissful nausea experienced during an unexpected ~love at first sight~ encounter … Carrie Wagner’s ethereal wistful vocals are encapsulated by lush layers of pulsating guitars. The unpredictable chord progressions that cycle through different keys convey the emotional highs and lows of being in love. The song is stalled by a sinking cadence as the lyric “I can feel the weight” tapers off. It then bursts into a reprise of the first section driven by a piercing guitar melody and colossal drums that were recorded in the balcony of a Chicago cathedral.”

The Sound of Ghosts – Train to Nowhere: “Americana roots musical collective hailing from Los Angeles, California. The five-piece collective of accomplished musicians have crafted a musical experience unlike any other with their unique arrangements and vast variety of influences. (They are) James Orbison (vocals, bass), Anna Orbison (vocals, ukulele), Ernesto Rivas (lead guitar), Phoebe Silva (fiddle) and Jon Sarna (drums). The Sound of Ghosts formed in memory of the band’s friend Dave Lamb, who passed away too soon from Leukaemia. Lamb headed an acclaimed band ‘Brown Bird’ with his wife … “The Sound of Ghosts” (was) the title of Brown Bird’s first album.”

Miles Dismond – All to Myself: … “an artist out of Berkeley, CA, whose sound sits somewhere between the lo-fi psych-pop of Ariel Pink and hazy psychedelia of Lonerism-era Tame Impala. The DIY singer/songwriter, who records all instruments and vocals at home, was nominated this past April by The Deli Magazine for San Francisco’s Best New Artist, where he finished second. “I started working on this project in April,” Miles explains. “I recorded everything at home and did all the mixing and mastering as well.””

The Max Tribe – Yellow Pages: From their new LP, Retrofit – “To retrofit is take something old, something used and revitalize it with the addition of modern parts – a fitting reference for a band whose classic rock influences are easily heard, but melded into a blend of modern psych-blues with a touch of soul. Retrofit was recorded at 1867 Studios in Boston, a massive building that once served as a Masonic Temple but now houses the collection of vintage recording equipment that lent itself well to The Max Tribe’s philosophy of respecting vintage methods of recording, but ultimately reinterpreting them.”

Megan Henwood – Seventh: “The single is taken from Henwood’s forthcoming album, River, which depicts her lifelong relationship with the rivers and seas that flow into her creativity. Its alt-folk essence is illuminated with shades of sophisticated jazz and low-key electronica, on a record of dark hues and discreet optimism. Seventh soars into force with Megan’s immaculate finger picking skills, combined with her warm, smooth vocals sounding akin to the likes of Laura Marling or Lucy Rose.” More info and tour dates here.

The Deportees – A Single Truth: “Over three years in the making, the debut album from Aberdeen five piece The Deportees is now ready for release. The Birth of Industry is out on 3rd November 2017. Intended to channel a sense of place, The Birth of Industry is heavily influenced by the unique terrain of the North East of Scotland. Conjuring images of pastoral beauty, in juxtaposition with stark industrial landscapes, it is an ambivalent love affair between five people and the place they call home. From the dark, melodic folk of ‘A Single Truth’ to the lilting instrumentation and soaring harmonies of ‘I Lost Her to the Sea’ and ‘The Woods’, the album is an eclectic collection of cinematic soundscapes, each fuelled by the sweeping baritone of frontman Diarmaid O’Gallagher.”

The Bara Bara Band – Mists of Time: “Combining folk influences with contemporary subjects, The Bara Bara Band are ready to introduce their modern twist on tradition with their forthcoming album The Seeds Inside (The Grapes Upon The Vine), out now via Singaround Records … Like all folk music, each track has an underlying story behind the band’s intricate musicianship and Ruth Jacob and Rupert Browne’s colloquial, warm lead vocals … Ruth explains: ”the album reflects traditions within music, how the old is contained inside the new and the new existed within the old.””

Gallery 47 – In Odessa: Since the release of his critically acclaimed album Clean, alt-folk songwriter Gallery 47 aka Jack Peachey has been preparing to share his colourfully political follow up album, Adversity Breeds. This second album, as part of a trilogy, is available via AWAL / Bad Production Records. Jack explains: “If Clean was the romantic album, Adversity Breeds is the divorce”.

Maggie Szabo – Don’t Give Up: “Maggie Szabo is a Canadian singer-songwriter who has been winning over audiences worldwide with her stunningly soulful vocals and empowering pop anthems. Hailing from small town Ontario, Szabo is now an accomplished musician living in Los Angeles and is using her music to conquer social injustice. Entitled Don’t Give Up On Love the video is a love letter of support to the LGBTQ community and tells the story of a transgender high school student attending prom. It’s a touching and relevant narrative which is so important to today’s society.”

ELEKTRISK GØNNER (Skyler Cocco + Benjamin Løzninger) – Money: French-American band, “With their new single Money, Elektrisk Gønner explores a new path of the electro-pop music. Spreading some 80’s hip-hop / 8bit vibes mixed to dirty guitar loops, the sugar voice of Skyler melt into an infectious bass that sticks in your head forever. Money is about superficial love. The story within the song is about two lovers who experience short lived happiness and bliss, only for it to disappear when things become more serious and they begin to dig deeper below the surface of each other.”

General Crush – Find new Friends: Find New Friends is the latest single by Boston based singer/songwriter General Crush. This soulful, laid-back track tells a story of transformation and renewal, layering foot-stomping beats underneath warm acoustic tones … General Crush is … Boston based songwriter Ray Ward. Named after Ray Charles, Ward comes from a musical family and began his career as a bass player.”
